Sleeping ever so peacefully in a small apartment in the Oliver and Company district was Kate Drunab.  A hazel colored rat that was as happy as could be, she didn't have to get up for work for another two hours.  So close to her precious sleep, so close… BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!!

"GAH-HA-HA!"  Leaping up Kate practically flung herself off the bed as the smoke alarm went off.  "Guhhh…"  She sat up nursing the welt she just got from landing head first on the floor.  Slowly she staggered to her feet and hobbled into the kitchen just as the smoke alarm was silenced.  "Da hells goin on?"

"Oh, Kate you're up early," Arianna turned to face her roommate while she scraped some charred black dust, what looked like toast, into a waste basket.

Kate saw the remains of Arianna's attempt at breakfast and connected dot to dot deducing the cause of her rude awaking.  "Yeah," Kate leaned against the door frame arms crossed, "darndest thing I was almost back asleep when the smoke alarm went off.  That wouldn't have anything to do with, whatever that is?"  She motioned to the black glop in the garbage.

Arianna looked from her pissed roomy to her sad breakfast attempt and put on a wide smile, "Hm?  Oh, yeah about that see there was this little problem with breakfast."

"Yeah you tried to make it."  Kate raised an unimpressed eyebrow; Arianna was raised to be a princess so she had never needed to cook for herself.  Since they started rooming together Kate did the cooking or they ordered out. Needless to say it wasn't a pretty picture when she tried.

"Hey at least I was trying.  I didn't see you making an attempt."

        "… I was asleep."

Arianna paused and turned back toward Kate, "Ah well what are you complaining about?  You have two hours to relax," Arianna smiled, "and make us breakfast."

Kate watched as 'The Iron Chef' finished cleaning up her dish.  The smart-alec rat clasped her hands together and spun in a gay merriment, "Oh joy of joys!  I have the esteemed privilege of serving my most delightful princess."  She responded with a sweeping bow.

Arianna rolled her eyes as she plopped down to watch television.  While Kate began looking through the cupboard Arianna remembered some important information she acquired a little while ago.  "Oh, Kate by the way I found out a little on your parents car accident.  Apparently some Doberman has key info on it."

Kate's interest was piqued at the mention of her parents' accident.  "Oh really?  What's this guy's name and where would we get a hold of him?"

"Well," Arianna picked up a few pieces of paper, "the name's Maxwell Harmoanian, and looky here he's got an appointment at Oliver's tomorrow.  We could 'persuade' him to tell us what he knows then."

Kate snickered at the thought; neither the princess nor the rat had the patience for scum like this Harmoanian character.  Surely she'd think of some good persuasion tactics to use.  "That sounds good what's say we make a theatrical performance out of it? Put on a little show to get rid of Peg, the receptionist, and then deal with him."

Arianna sniffed, "Wow does that smell good!"  She licked her lips, "so watcha makin?"

"I was gonna make a bowl of cereal but now with the good news I'm feeling outgoing.  How's blueberry pancakes, and bacon sound?"

"Fantastic!"  Arianna practically leapt off the couch with excitement.

"Perfect, we'll get on the plan for tomorrow when we're done."  After about thirty minutes the batter had solidified, the bacon became crisp, and breakfast was ready.  Kate scrapped the food onto two plates, poured herself some coffee, put the plates on the coffee table and plopped down next to her friend.

Arianna grabbed her plate and in between gulps asked, "So what's the plan for tomorrow?"  She swallowed her mouthful, "I know you have something in mind."

"Nah not yet." Kate pondered for a moment and tapped her chin with her fork.  "Well actually…"

"Hah!  I knew it!"  Arianna swung her fork to point at Kate, getting bits of pancake on her muzzle.  "You always think about these things well in advance."

"Not all the time," she wiped the bits of blueberry from her fur, "only when it's about something that I'm passionate about."

        "Like your parents demise?"

"Exactly."  She pointed the period on her sentence with her fork.  "First we'd stage an argument to get rid of Peggy."

The royal perked up, "The husband and wife argument?"

Kate smiled and waved her arms in an eccentric manner, "Sure why not!"

"Well seems easy enough to get rid of the receptionist," Arianna took another forkful, "but how are you gonna get Maxwell to talk?  I volunteered tomorrow to help clean the park so I'll only be able to stick around for the argument."

"If you'll only be around for the argument why do you need to know?"  The rodent directed her attention back to the television as she sipped her coffee.

Arianna scowled at Kate for an answer but to no avail, so she tried a different tactic… begging!  "Aw come on!  I'm gonna help you with the first part, what's the harm in telling me the second?!  Please?"

Kate looked at her roommate without moving her head, seemingly unaffected.  Arianna pulled puppy eyes and the rat quickly gave in.  "Fine fine!  Just put the eyes away."

"Epic."  Not missing a beat she dove right back into her breakfast.

"First off the room he's been set up for won't make a difference, and then I plan to put on a little persona that would put him in the position where he'd have to do anything I ask."

"Do you realize how sexual that sounds?"

"… Really?" Kate raised an annoyed eyebrow.

"Well dude when you say something like that with a massage parlor involved, the gears just start to turn."  Arianna explanation was hardly a valid one.

"Yeah I know, that's what I would say, I don't appreciate it when you take my material.  It's just rude."  She folded her arms grumbling.

Arianna put her hand on Kate's shoulder and spoke to her like she was five, "I'm sorry Kathryn I'll be quiet while you finish your story."

Kate growled "First of all don't you dare call me Kathryn," she turned back and pouted "and you should be."  As if nothing happened she picked up where she had left off.   "There are types of deep tissue massages that are very painful, so I plan to kill two birds with one stone.  First of all the massage will put him in such pain that he'll be more than happy to answer some questions for me.  Then afterwards the relief on his muscles cause him fall into a deep sleep, a short one but deep, enough for me to leave without any trouble."

Arianna found a flaw.  "You said this deep tissue massage would hurt really bad, so he'll scream won't he?"

"Well," she said through a mouth full of food, "I haven't worked everything out but don't worry, the part your involved in is all worked out.  It's just the few details on my part that need to be finished; it won't be a bother to you."

Arianna paused, her voice turning deathly serious, "Kate of course it'll bother me, if you don't plan this out properly it could backfire horribly on you.  And god forbid you get hurt or worse…"

Kate turned toward her friend; she didn't realize how much Arianna cared.  She smiled warmly, "If it'll make you feel better I promise to make sure nothing will happen to me."

Arianna turned back toward Kate "I'm glad we're on the same page," Arianna responded in a sophisticated voice holding out her hand.

"Quite, quite," Kate extended her hand and shook.

As the day went on Kate and Arianna continued to prepare for tomorrow's plans or as they called it, "Operation Massage", Arianna's idea, it got to the time when Arianna had to go to her nightshift as a bartender.  Kate stayed at the apartment to continue research.

She personally hated her job, as she didn't drink regularly, but it pays the bills. Since Arianna was one of the few who worked the bar, tips are ample.

"Order up Ari", a nickname she acquired at the bar, "we need 2 glasses of whiskey here, shaken and fast," said one of the other waiters to Arianna.

"Alright it's coming right up Arty; just give me a second to find the bottles," She replied.

While she got the two glasses of whiskey, a group of women entered through the door. Arianna looked up to see them and groaned.

Aw man, not those rich chicks from the mansion houses again, always making fun of us being "poor and run down filthy people" thought Arianna.

Forcing a smile, she asked if they would like anything to drink. Just then one of the ladies said," Um excuse me, but weren't you on the cover of Who's who Disney Magazine?"

"Um no I don't recall," Arianna began to say.

"Your name is Ari right! My you look wonderful in that bartender outfit, you are quite handsome sir," the woman interrupted.

Arianna was fairly shocked, not only had they mistaken her for some princely character, but they were flirting with her too!

"Look ladies, did you come to flirt or drink?"  Arianna asked in an aggravated tone, "So what'll be?"

Then another woman, with a rather large nose, ignored Arianna's agrivated tone," Our order will be you, at 6:00 pm tomorrow night at the nightclub down the street."  She leaned forward to show her cleavage.

Arianna couldn't take another minute of this she slamed her fist on the counter, "First of all, I'm not a dude! And secondly I don't want to hear your blabber any longer, how about you order like a sane person and we can both get on with our lives!  Or better yet don't order anything and just get out!"

The ladies looked on in shock, "Oh my, that was not very dashing of you to say to us rich beautiful women, are you sure you are not the celebrity from the magazine?"

Arianna already had a short temper but these morons were just trying to piss her of.  Her face turned a dark shade of red and to avoid causing a scene Arianna turned and punched a deep hole in the bar wall.

"What's wrong Ari, why the sudden mood swing, the boss isn't going to be happy to see that hole in the wall," Arty asked.

Arianna just looked at him, took a deep breath, and went to the back of the bar to get a poster of some new beer they had on draft. Then she started hammering the poster on top of the hole in the wall.  "There, the boss will never know, so let's just forget this ever happened, and by the way can you do something about that group of 'ladies'. I don't care what you do, just get rid of them or make them order something," growled Arianna waving her hand.

Arty looked at Arianna with surprise, normally she did not behave like this. He went to the table with the 'ladies', but rather than order anything they simply made snide comments and left after about ten minutes.

The bar clock struck midnight, so Arianna packed up and headed back to the apartment for a long rest.

Argh I mean I admit I dress like a tomboy, but people thinking I'm a guy? That's just ridiculous! Arianna angrily thought.

She walked toward the apartment when a distressed cry pierced the air, Arianna looked around. Then she heard a strange rustling in the bushes; poking her head in the bushes and she saw a small dark figure cowering.

"Are you alright kid? What are you doing in a place like this?"Asked Arianna quietly.

It was a little yorkie that looked back at her in complete shock. The child, in desperation, ran up to Arianna and wrapped her arms around Arianna's legs holding on tightly.

"Aw don't worry little one, I'll get you back home, where do you live?" Arianna asked. All of a sudden some voices came about. Arianna listened quietly as two figures came out into the open.

"Where did that mutt get to? When I get my hands on the little twerp I'm gonna strangle her till she spits out the food she stole from us!" the two figures roared in anger. When they got closer, Arianna saw that the 2 brutes were muscular tigers dressed in suits. They had a nasty look in their eyes almost a homicidal kind.

Arianna quickly caught on to the situation, and scoped up the little yorkie and tiptoed further into the forest. Suddenly the girl's ear got snagged on a pointed branch and she let out a high pitch yelp, the two men of course caught wind of her cry and bolted in their direction.   Realizing that she had blown their quiet escape Arianna quickly hid the girl in a nearby bush and grabbed hold of a thick branch bending it backwards.

"I think she went this way!" shouted one of them. While they ran towards the direction the one had indicated Arianna came into their line of vision.  They came to a stop and asked her, "Oh excuse me miss, but have you seen a little mangy Yorkie Terrier run by?  You see-" one of the men begin to ask.

Arianna then let go of the branch slapping them both across the face and knocking them on to their backs.  Arianna stood over them a foot on the one's chest, "Now you listen here, you don't go anywhere near that girl, or I'll strangle you both ,do you understand? Now how about you forget this little mess, and live and let live?"

The men stared up in shock, exchanged glances and nodded quickly.  Arianna smiled and let them up as soon as she did the two got their feet and ran off.

The girl then emerged from her hiding place and praised Arianna, "Oh thank you, thank you! You can't imagine how much I appreciate all of your help, I can't thank you enough!  Truth be told I actually didn't steal the food my friends did, but I was trying to return the stuff they took.  But then they called out the owners and they chased me all the way out here," at this point the girl was in hysterics and had tears running down her muzzle.

Arianna bent down and with a warm smile she patted the child's head, "It's okay I promise they won't bother you again."

Overcome with emotions the girl wrapped her arms around Arianna's neck pulling her into a hug. Arianna was surprised, but happy she could help the little girl she smiled and hugged her back.

Arianna walked the little girl back to her house and just as she ran up her front stairs Arianna asked," By the way, what's your name kid?"

The little girl turned around and yelled back, "Its Evangeline! I hope we can meet again!"  She waved and ran inside

Arianna chuckled and headed back toward her own home.  When she opened the door to enter her apartment Kate came out of her room, on a mission for a glass of water, and looked in surprise to see Arianna.

"Wow must've been a rough night down at the bar? What kept ya so late?" Kate asked as she took a glass from the cupboard.

Arianna just smiled and said, "It was a little rough at first, but no big deal or anything, nothing I couldn't take care of.  You know I like a challenge."

Kate laughed and said, "If only you can take on the challenge of cooking, we wouldn't have so many complaints about the sprinklers going off."

Arianna laughed too, "I just need some more practice, one day I hope to cook without anything catching fire."  She held up her fist in a determined manner.

After a quick over view of what had been prepared for the next day the two friends entered their respective rooms to rest up for tomorrows plan "Operation Massage".
